El Perro Del Mar Review

We review El Perro Del Mar’s latest album, From the Valley to the Stars.
From the Valley to the Stars is beautiful music. The album is like a great typeface, it’s what’s not there that makes the form, fit; makes the creation expressive. The album features short tracks, but there’s a lot to be discovered here.
BARR Playing Portland

BARR, Brendan Fowler, signed to Kill Rock Stars, will be playing at Backspace this Friday, April 25th. BARR’s artful representations through his music are both interesting, unique and alarming – my girlfriend listened to BARR and asked, is he really just talking?. No Rae, there’s more there, in the music.
Brendan is also an editor at the ANPQuarterly – a venture of sorts between artists and RVCP clothing line (the ‘V’ is a Roman ‘U’). Here’s a taste of Brendan’s art.

How to Make a Great Band Website
Ok, we get asked frequently, “should I just rely on MySpace? does our band really need our own website?”.
Yes, you need your own website and no don’t just rely on MySpace, or imeem, or Amie St. Why send all your traffic to those sites and none none to your own, where at you can control the look, feel and message of your music? That’s a rhetorical question, but really, you want to take advantage of the massiveness of MySpace but still get people to experience your music (maybe even buy your music) at your website. We don’t think this is a contended topic, but we understand that putting the pieces together because of time, money and technology can be fucking hard and confusing. We’d like to help you sort some things out.

The Dimes to Perform New Songs
The Dimes are scheduled to perform with Justin King and Ehren Ebbage at the Mississippi Studios on April 19th at 9pm. The Dimes will be playing, for the first time, songs from their upcoming, second full-length album.
It was just in December of last year that The Dimes released their first full-length album, The Silent Generation; reviewed here at NW Noise and was reviewed and liked by SPIN magazine, with the mag saying:
“The hooky debut from this tuneful quartet is a moving meditation on hard times…The Dimes employ an array of flutes, glockenspiels, melodicas, tambourines, and handclaps to heighten the mood, with “Catch Me Jumping” and “Paul Kern Can’t Sleep” skyrocketing exuberantly. 3.5 STARS!”
The Silent Generation was picked up by college radio, played on music blogs, aggregated on Hype Machine and all this on top of debuting at #37 on CMJ’s first Top 200 Chart of 2008.
WHO: The Dimes (Northwest indie-pop). Supported by Justin King, Ehren Ebbage.
WHAT: Live performance featuring ALL NEW MUSIC and FREE CD’s
WHEN: Saturday, April 19th at 9pm
WHERE: Mississippi Studios (Portland, Oregon)
WHY: The Dimes are mid-way through recording their second full-length
record and want to share what they’ve got so far!
