Oh Darling - Band Brief

(Left to Right) Jasmine, J. Marie, Davey and Jake of Oh Darling

With both a raucous and adorable (is that possible? YES!) approach to playing music, the rock ‘n roll Romeo’s and Juliet’s of Portland, Oh Darling, have packed a harmonious year plus long punch to Portland’s indie rock scene in the form of Jasmine Ash, J. Marie, Davey and Jake (also with the local PDX band Jonah). This 2 (boys) + 2 (girls) = 4 (band members) formula has been equating to a rapidly growing fan base in the past year plus, and appearances with such local acts as Derby, Jonah, The Dimes, and even Oakland, Cali’s own The Heavenly States, to name a very few.

NW Girls Make Noise participant Jasmine Ash brings her child-like and devilishly innocent vocal presence front and center with her on-stage apparel twin in crime J. Marie banging out the bass. Davey magically whales on the guitar which he was forced to learn when joining the band, and Jake squares out the foursome with his possessed drumming technique and penchant for throwing his drum sticks in the air towards the end of a set and running around the venue in search of a “hell yeah, that rocked” hug.

“The Darlings” recently wrapped up a tour that took them from Portland, through the bay area, all the way to Los Angeles and they’re going back for more Cali goodness in June 2008. Check their myspace page for show dates, times, and other ridiculous and entertaining musings from the band.

The photo above was taken on June 1st, 2008 after their podcast interview with Northwest Noise at a favorite and frequent hang out spot of the website, The Doug Fir Lounge. Make sure to mark your music-buying mental calendars for August 19th, 2008. It’s the release date of their first LP called Nice Nice. A full review of the album will be posted just prior to the actual release of the record in early to mid-August.

Oh Darling’s music is the ultimate bubble gum pop rock where the flavor lasts long past their set has finished. Chew ‘em up and savor the flavor that is Oh Darling.
